Day 2: Recovery

Here are some more random thoughts.  These are not in any particular order.

  • Went for a walk today around Wuhan.  I walked past a couple sidewalk vendors (probably not legit) setting guns, some selling pets, MP3 players, etc.  There were also a lot of food vendors.
  • I noticed that Lenovo has it’s own stores here, along with Adidas.  I felt funny walking by Adidas because I happened to be wearing a t-shirt with the Adidas logo on it.
  • I stopped at an ATM and picked up 200 CNY, or about $30.
  • I did not take any photos today because I did not want to look like a tourist-tourist.  I’ll do that later.  I just wanted to get a feel for the city.
  • I’ve been sleepy for majority of the day today.  The jet lag must be catching up to me.  I ended up waking up earlier than I wanted to today.  That might also have something to do with that.
  • It starts getting dark here around 7PM.  I guess that’s what happens when the country is all one time-zone though.  Sun starts to come out around 5AM.
  • I’m still trying to figure out why there is a phone in the bathroom, but maybe that’s something I’ll never understand.
  • YouTube is blocked in China.  Everyone panic!
  • I’ve walked by a McDonalds and a KFC today.  The menus are in Chinese, so I can’t really tell if they sell all the same food or not, but I assume so.
  • 110 is the Chinese equivalent of 911.  Noted & Saved.
  • A lot of stores operate from run-down buildings.  When you see some of these buildings in America, they have usually been abandoned.
  • When I was walking around Wuhan, I did not see any other non-Chinese person.  It’s interesting to feel like you are all of the sudden the minority.
  • Police cars have an interesting sound to them here.  Along with the normal siren we hear in America, there is some other sound they make too.
  • I don’t understand how I have not seen anyone get in an accident yet.  I’ve seen cars nearly hit pedestrians / vehicles, but I have not seen any actually impact yet.  I suppose that’s a plus, but it still seems really dangerous.
  • Why are motorcycles / motorbikes allowed on the sidewalks?  That’s just a disaster waiting to happen.
  • The city roads / sidewalks are not exactly clean.  Anywhere there is a hole in the ground, there seems to be trash.
  • If anyone wants to send me a text message, it needs to be sent here: +86 150.7128.0892.  From the US, most wireless providers will charge $0.20 for an international message.
  • Hi Sharon & Kevin!

Update: Anyone can send me a text message by emailing a short message to 15071280892[NO@SPAM]139.com. That is free. Not sure if I can reply back or not though.

The Thursday Folder is ready Blake!

Jet lag is worse when you come home. Make it worthwhile.

One of many other mothers :-)
